“Disciple”

“Jesus said to the people that believed in him, ‘You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings’.” – John 8:31 (NLT)

Only those who continue in His Word – abide in His Word – are faithful to His Teachings – shall truly be His Disciples.

“You are truly my disciples if …. “

“The word if is a conditional word. It has a cause and effect and there is action needed on our part. What we do or not do will affect our Spiritual growth.”

“The disciple will take the principles learned in church and use them – work through them – and share them.”  – Pastor Brice

“Religious vs Relationship”

What’s your choice? Would you rather be known for being religious – having belief in God, or rather be known for your relationship – connection, to God?

Before you answer, lets define religious and relationship as they relate to Christianity.  Religious: having or showing belief in and reverence to God.  Relationship: the condition or fact of being related, connected, or associated with God.

“Religion measures your aptitude while your relationship with God measures your attitude.”  – Rev. Seymore Brice

“Relationship is all about developing. The Word is to be shared. Develop the attitude that you have to do something with The Word. Have an: I can’t hold my peace a moment longer attitude.”  – Pastor V.S. Brice

Develop your relationship with God! Get to know Him through His Word! Read, absorb, and meditate on the Scriptures. Pastor Brice suggested that we be repetitive in our reading of Scripture.

“Before I look for revelation in Scripture I look to absorb-ation. When I first read Scripture I go real slow, take my time, look for patterns. I absorb the Scripture. This means to read it over, and over again. (10-15 times) Absorb-ation! Wait on God – He’ll give you revelation!”  – Pastor V.S. Brice

I invite you to meet me at The Temple where you’ll be encouraged and spiritually uplifted by The Word from Pastor Brice as he continues his awesome teachings on relationship and discipleship.

Until then – Stay Connected!

“How Is Your Flow?”

How is your flow? “He has to be in you in order to flow out of you.” – Pastor V.S. Brice

Pastor Brice was teaching on the characteristics of Christian discipleship. They are: First – Follow – Fruitful – Favor – Flow. Put God first – follow Him – be fruitful (develop and grow) – show favor (support and encourage other followers) – let God flow out of you (spread His Message, share what you have learned).

Read: Mark 8:34; John 8:31-32; John 15:5-8; John 13:34-35; and Matthew 28:18-20 for documentation.

Matthew 4:19 (NIV) “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

Disciples, followers of Christ. When I hear the word, disciples, I think of the 12 men that followed Jesus. Yet, this is us! Being in the Word, discerning the Word, letting His Word sustain you, sharing His Word. Although our growth in the Word is never ending we are still followers of Christ, we are His disciples.

Therefore, I encourage you to grow into your discipleship so when you hear the word disciple – know that this is you – a follower of Christ – a sharer of His Word. Learn to live It – own It – love It – and most of all – show the God in you by letting It flow!  Disciple!

“What’s Your Score?”

What’s your score? No, I’m not referring to your credit score or a score in any competitive game or event.  I’m referring to your “integrity score”.  In one of our recent Leadership Classes Pastor Brice made the statement: “Integrity is the cousin to character – character is who you are when no one is looking.”

Integrity defined: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles – moral uprightness – trustworthiness – truthfulness – fairness. You cannot fake your integrity because “it is what it is” – it is who you are.  Discern what God expects from you and follow His Will in everything.  Integrity rooted in the Holy Spirt may not earn your salvation, but it will be pleasing to God.  Psalm 41:11-12

Integrity score? Is there such a thing? No, but it is something to reflect on. Also, reflect on this statement by Rev. Seymore Brice: “Integrity is keeping a commitment even after the circumstances have changed.”  As you think about your integrity, how would you score yourself?  Is your integrity acceptable to God?  If God were to give scores in integrity what score would He give you?  While you’re thinking ….

“Look Up!”

Pastor Brice has often said, “Everything good comes from looking Up where our Heavenly Father resides.”   Psalm 121:1-2

Wake up – Look Up!  Thank You Lord – It’s a new day. Thank You Lord – I know the way

Dining – Look Up! Thank You Lord – Food on my table – Thank You Lord – I am able

Look Up!  Planning: vacations – celebrations – special events

Look Up!  Deciding: cars – house – job – college

Look Up!  Traveling: work – school – meetings

Look Up! God will lead – Help in need: Comfort – Food – Clothing – Shelter

Share the Word! Look Up! Acknowledge Him! Proverbs 3:6 & Philippians 4:13

“Develop Your Spiritual Muscles”

To be physically fit we must have a healthy diet and an exercise routine that involves strengthening and developing our muscles. Can we agree on this?  Yes! Ok, lets take this a step further. To be Spiritually fit we must have a healthy Spiritual diet (the Word) and an exercise routine that involves prayer – praise – worship – and sharing the Word to strengthen and develop our Spiritual muscles.  Read: Matthew 28:19-20

A quote from Pastor Brice, “Faith is like a muscle, it has to be developed.”  Faith without growth is like planting a seed and not watering it. God uses our struggles – storms – to develop us, to grow us. Rev. Seymore Brice can often be heard to say:  “Everybody has storms – you’re either in the middle of a storm – just came out of a storm – or getting ready to go through a storm.”  Read: James 1:2-4

Going through something means exactly that, going through. Therefore, keep it moving!  Rejoice!  God will see you through! God has a plan form you – God is developing you! It’s okay to ask Him: “What am I to learn from this Lord?”  “What do you want me to do Lord?”  Have faith – listen – obey – pass it on!  This is the key to strengthening and developing your Spiritual muscles.  Read: Philippines 4:13

“Don’t Get Caught Up!”

“Satan is the prince of this world. He uses the world to distract us: lust of the flesh – lust of the eyes – the pride of life. Although these things are not important they can become major when we get caught up in them.”  An excerpt from Pastor Brice’s sermon on “Satan’s Devices”.

Read and reflect on 1 John 2:15-16

Satan is very cunning in his subterfuge and camouflage. He uses our own weaknesses as a device to distract us.  Stay focused!  While we are distracted Satan will quietly go about his agenda: to Deceive God’s children, to Destroy God’s churchto Denigrate (scandalize) God’s Word, and Discourage God’s people.  Yes, Pastor Brice included Satan’s agenda in his awesome teaching of The Word. You will be inspired to remain diligent in your Godly Walk.

“….. resist the devil and he will flee from you.”  James 4:7

Look closely at what is trending, at what “everybody else is doing”.  If it’s not of God, it’s one of Satan’s distractions. Don’t get caught up!  Stop helping Satan!  Get off Team Problem and join Team Solution!  Connect with The Temple. Pastor Brice has The Word for you. Get Connected!

“Share Your Video”

Christians are called to share their knowledge of Christ. All ages, single digits to triple digits, included. Your share is another’s blessing. If your life-style was seen on video, what would it look like? Would your video be shareable?

During our Leadership Class, Pastor Brice made the statement: “We should see your video before your audio.”  Your walk with Christ should clearly be seen in your life-style – before you speak a single Word. Not only that, your Walk with Christ should be shared with others.

Mark 16:15 (NLT) “And then he told them. “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”

Your life-style video should be reflective of your belief in God. Let others see God in your actions: the way you live (walk) and talk. Your actions are sometimes mentally recorded by people you will never meet. But, you will leave an impression on them. When referring to video – this includes mental images as well as images in modern devices: Live-streaming – U.S.B. driven – U-Tube – Facebook – Snap-chat – DVD. Meanwhile, share your video and ….

“Who Are You Hanging With?”

Ephesians 5:1-7  Gives us explicit instructions as to who or whom we should be in company with. Or, who we should hang out with. Pastor Brice, in our Thursday Night Bible Study, “Guard Your Relationship with God”, told us to watch the company we keep. “You can’t hang out with the world and hang out with God at the same time!”

Ephesians 5:1 (NLT) “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you’re his dear children.”

Being imitators of God automatically makes us different. Luxuriate in being different! We sometimes try to be friends with everyone, try to get along with everyone. Don’t get comfortable in doing this. This may lead to spending more time with worldly people and less time with God.

Be the example – be the trend setter – be the one your family and friends are drawn to hang out with. You’ve heard the saying: “You are what you eat!”  Well, listen to this one: “You are who you hang out with!”  Hang out with God! Follow Him! Hang out with Godly people!  Until our next meeting ……
