“Be Happy!”

“Smile, be happy!”  Did you smile? What about the happy part? Exactly! A smile, though pleasing and welcoming, can also be a camouflage. Smile activators: your relationship with your family and friends – your possessions – high level paying job – high level education – high level bank account. You may smile when you think of these things but, they are all tied to outer happiness. Look to God for inner happiness which will generate a smile of genuine pleasure.

“There is nothing that will fulfill your happiness outside of God.  If you want to be happy you must separate yourself from the world.”  – Pastor V.S. Brice

Romans 12:2 (NLT) “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

“Of this world” refers to a system in opposition to God. Don’t oppose God, be renewed by God. Let the Holy Spirit, which lives in you, transform your mind and know the peace- tranquility – happiness – and comfort of God. Have a godly mindset. Let the Word bring you unequalled, incomparable, happiness from within.

“The Word of God will bring you matchless relief.”  – Pastor V.S. Brice

“Praise Through Song”

Lyrics of some of our many gospel songs of today are derived from the book of Psalm, which was written as poetry expressions of praise, worship, and confessions. We know that God wants to hear from us, so what better way to praise Him than through His Word.

Psalm 121:1 (KJV) “I will lift mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.”

Psalm 121:7 (KJV) “The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life.”

Total Praise – lyrics by: Richard Smallwood: Lord, I will lift mine eyes to the hills – Knowing my help is coming from You – Your peace You give me in time of the storm – You are the source of my strength – You are the strength of my life – I lift my hands in total praise to You. Amen

Surrender and feel the Spirit as you sing gospel songs – prayers and praises – to God. God wants to hear from you! Gospel songs were written for every voice. You will sound beautiful even if you think you’re singing off-key. Why? Because you will awake God’s Spirit in you. With God’s Spirit you will never be off-key. Praise Him … and … Stay Connected!

“Are You Hungry?”

Are you hungry? Did you miss breakfast? Lunch? Do you feel like you need something that will satisfy your appetite? Well, I have just the thing for you. The Word of God! Yes, the Word! And, you don’t need any side dishes to go with it.

“The Word of God is a full course meal by Itself.” – Rev. Seymore Brice

Think about this for a moment. A diet of God’s Word will satisfy your appetite but, like a Thanksgiving dinner, you’ll still want more. This should be your goal in growing in the Lord – to want more – to overflow.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirt.” – Romans 15:13 (NIV)

Maintain a diet of God’s Word. Warning: You’ll gain on God’s Word Diet! Wow! What a pleasant and nice warning. Are you ready to start gaining? Are you ready to grow? How?

We often hear: “Stay in the Word – Grow in the Word!” But instructions seldom follow (I said, seldom). Read and meditate on His Word. Pray (for yourself and others) – Praise God (use His Word and gospel songs to thank Him for His Goodness) – Witness (share His Word). I guarantee you that once you try God’s Word Diet you will reach your goal – you will win. Peace – Joy – Strength – Life!

“Spiritual Increase”

“Christianity is not about religion – It’s about your relationship with God.” – Pastor V.S. Brice

During our 60-Day Challenge to work on our relationship with the Lord, give Him your full attention. Let Him hear from you. Continue to “pray without ceasing” and meditate on His Word, including the following Scripture:

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”  Psalm 19:14 (KJV)

“What comes out of the mouth gets its start in the heart. Watch what you let come into your minds and your hearts.”  – Pastor V.S. Brice

Pray that your words reflect what is in your heart – that they be acceptable to Him – He Who gives strength and redemption. Pray to grow your spiritual relationship with Him. God wants to spend time with you in worship. The more we keep Him in our spirit the more our relationship with Him will grow. Worship Him in spirit and in truth.

“For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”                                                 –   John 4:24 (NLT)

Stay on course – keep it moving! Your spiritual level doesn’t matter, we are all due for a spiritual increase – for an up-grade in our relationship with the Lord.

“Pray Without Ceasing”

As we journey through our 60-Day Challenge to grow in our relationship with Christ, I am using the apostle Paul’s words – “Pray without ceasing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)

“Pray without ceasing!” Paul gave these instructions to the Thessalonians to encourage them to lead lives worthy of Christ’s Kingdom. I am using Paul’s words now to encourage us as we grow in our relationship with Christ.

To pray without ceasing means not to let anything hinder you. Don’t let anything stop you from praying. It also means to pray in earnest and without weariness. Pray with enthusiasm – with a joyful spirit. Pray what is in your heart – from your heart. Ask God to lead you in your prayers. Praying is a time to “Let go and let God!” There is no prayer too short or too long. When God leads – prayer succeeds!

Until we meet again – be encouraged during our 60-Day Challenge. God is with you! When God is with you – Winning is in you!

60-Day Challenge

How is your relationship with Christ? Here at The Temple our pastor, Rev. Victor S. Brice, has given us a 60-Day Challenge (which started 2 weeks ago) to take a close look at our relationship with Christ and improve upon it.  We all have areas in our Christian life that could use some improvement. Strive to do better and you will be better.

Where do you start? Look in the areas of: Prayer – Word – Worship – Discipleship – Serving.

Colossians 4:5-6 (NLT) “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.”

“Be skilled, competent, courteous and cordial in how you handle the unsaved so as not to become a stumbling block in their relationship with Christ. God didn’t give us gifts to squander. He expects us to produce – to be better at what we do. The goal is to bring out the best in others.” – Pastor Brice

Our relationship with Christ is connected to our relationship with others. Therefore, when we better our relationship with Christ, we will also better our relationship with others. Meanwhile …

“Disciple”

“Jesus said to the people that believed in him, ‘You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings’.” – John 8:31 (NLT)

Only those who continue in His Word – abide in His Word – are faithful to His Teachings – shall truly be His Disciples.

“You are truly my disciples if …. “

“The word if is a conditional word. It has a cause and effect and there is action needed on our part. What we do or not do will affect our Spiritual growth.”

“The disciple will take the principles learned in church and use them – work through them – and share them.”  – Pastor Brice

I again invite you to meet me at The Temple! Hear the Word of God being taught by our Pastor Victor S. Brice. Experience for yourself a Spiritual uplifting that can only come with the Word of God. I can talk about It – I can be about It – but you must personally receive It! He’s waiting on you!

“Religious vs Relationship”

What’s your choice? Would you rather be known for being religious – having belief in God, or rather be known for your relationship – connection, to God?

Before you answer, lets define religious and relationship as they relate to Christianity.  Religious: having or showing belief in and reverence to God.  Relationship: the condition or fact of being related, connected, or associated with God.

“Religion measures your aptitude while your relationship with God measures your attitude.”  – Rev. Seymore Brice

“Relationship is all about developing. The Word is to be shared. Develop the attitude that you have to do something with The Word. Have an: I can’t hold my peace a moment longer attitude.”  – Pastor V.S. Brice

Develop your relationship with God! Get to know Him through His Word! Read, absorb, and meditate on the Scriptures. Pastor Brice suggested that we be repetitive in our reading of Scripture.

“Before I look for revelation in Scripture I look to absorb-ation. When I first read Scripture I go real slow, take my time, look for patterns. I absorb the Scripture. This means to read it over, and over again. (10-15 times) Absorb-ation! Wait on God – He’ll give you revelation!”  – Pastor V.S. Brice

I invite you to meet me at The Temple where you’ll be encouraged and spiritually uplifted by The Word from Pastor Brice as he continues his awesome teachings on relationship and discipleship.

Until then – Stay Connected!

“How Is Your Flow?”

How is your flow? “He has to be in you in order to flow out of you.” – Pastor V.S. Brice

Pastor Brice was teaching on the characteristics of Christian discipleship. They are: First – Follow – Fruitful – Favor – Flow. Put God first – follow Him – be fruitful (develop and grow) – show favor (support and encourage other followers) – let God flow out of you (spread His Message, share what you have learned).

Read: Mark 8:34; John 8:31-32; John 15:5-8; John 13:34-35; and Matthew 28:18-20 for documentation.

Matthew 4:19 (NIV) “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

Disciples, followers of Christ. When I hear the word, disciples, I think of the 12 men that followed Jesus. Yet, this is us! Being in the Word, discerning the Word, letting His Word sustain you, sharing His Word. Although our growth in the Word is never ending we are still followers of Christ, we are His disciples.

Therefore, I encourage you to grow into your discipleship so when you hear the word disciple – know that this is you – a follower of Christ – a sharer of His Word. Learn to live It – own It – love It – and most of all – show the God in you by letting It flow!  Disciple!
