Hearing the words: ready – set – go, will bring a plethora of memories from childhood to adult. These three words are usually associated with some type of competition: Olympic track and field events – sports car racing – local parks and recreation events – children playing, etc. Today I would like to focus on the word: Set.  Get Set!  Get in a Set Place!

“There are three places you can be in: the wrong place, the good place, and the Set Place, also called, the Godly Place. The Set Place is the Place where God wants us to be.”  – Pastor Brice

“The Set Place (Godly Place) is referring to the spiritual – to obedience – a Place that cannot be found by G.P.S. – a Place that you cannot MapQuest – a Place that is ordained – a Place that is under the influence of God.” – Pastor Brice

Read: Jonah Chapter 1

God gave Jonah instructions, but Jonah disobeyed God and found himself in the wrong place, inside the belly of a big fish. God allowed Jonah to think about the penalty of disobeying Him for three days before he was released from the belly of the fish.

When you disobey God, you’ll find yourself in the wrong place. The wrong place is not only geographical or positional, it can also be an attitude – a place where you’re not growing spiritually. So, ready – Set – go! Get in the Right Place – under the influence of God. Get in the Set Place – the Godly Place!

During our Wednesday evening church service, Pastor Brice made the statement: “When you are absent from church you affect the flow of the church.”  Your absence will have a negative impact in the church continuity.

i.e. A large bucket of water with a small hole in it. Undetected, the water will slowly seep through the small hole. Eventually, you’ll notice that the bucket is only half full. Impact!

The church body consists of every member of Solomon Temple. Together we are like a well-oiled machine and are all necessary for the continuity of the church. However, remember that Satan is waiting, ready to pounce, ready to disrupt the church flow.

The Pastor, of most churches, will have leaders in place that have specific functions to help with the development and growth of its members. However, the member’s responsibility is to attend church, thus a positive continuity occurs.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT) “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now  that the day of his return is drawing near.”

Avoid a negative church flow. Put on the full armor of God. Wake up – to the Belt of Truth! Get up -with the Breastplate of Righteousness! Show up – in Shoes of Peace! Listen up – with the Shield of Faith! Receive – the Helmet of Salvation! Share – the Sword of the Spirit!  Pray in the Spirit! Impact, the church flow through: Word – Worship – Witness – Winning souls to Christ.

Walk is an action word which we do daily without hesitation or motivation for relocation. Walk literally means to move or is related to movement. Your walk can also be your area of discipline or calling. “Walk” as Jesus did. “Don’t walk” to the beat of Satan’s footsteps.

1 John 2:5-6 (NIV) “But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.”

We have been studying, “The Armor of God”, for the past couple of Bible Study sessions.

“The Armor of God represent attitudes and actions that the believer must practice in order to win the spiritual battle. Satan’s strategy is to wear us down.”  – Pastor V. S. Brice

The Armor of God: Belt of Truth – Breastplate of Righteousness – Shoes of Peace – Shield of Faith – Helmet of Salvation – Sword of The Spirit – Praying in The Spirit (the 7th piece of armor that is necessary to complete our weaponry for battle).  – Ephesians 6:10-20

We must be fully armed so that we can protect ourselves from Satan’s attacks. Satan is always waiting for his chance to pounce. Give an inch: Satan will smile and take a mile. Amor of God in place: Satan will flee, run from you and me. Don’t walk and be the cause for Satan to smile, instead, Walk and be the cause for Satan to flee.

“If we’re going to win the battle we must be filled with the Power of God and put on the Full Armor of God so that we can withstand the attack of the Devil.”  – Pastor V. S. Brice

Be strong in your Christian Faith with the full Armor of God in place. Wipe the smile from Satan’s face. Know that the battle is already won. Walk!

This past week Pastor Brice focused his teachings on how to deal with envious people, haters.

“We all have haters in our life – make sure you’re not contributing to their hate.”  – Pastor V.S. Brice

Are you contributing? We can unknowingly, through no fault of our own, become a contributor to someone’s hate or envy. How? By being the recipient of a gift/s or purchasing for ourselves something that another is coveting. You won’t have a clue, you won’t know what is going on, until you are being treated to lies – deceptions – and/or attacks on your character. Now is the time to get God involved, you will need His support. Don’t try to do it on your own.

“Don’t get side-tracked by what people say about you. Go to God.”  – Rev. Seymore Brice

Psalm 7:6 (NIV) “Arise, O Lord, in your anger; rise up against the rage of my enemies. Awake my God, decree justice.”

Pastor Brice gave the following on how to deal with people who hate on you:

1. Do nothing, in regards, to them. Remain in God’s teachings and principles. Luke 21:6
2. Don’t hate them back. Nothing good comes from a payback. 1 Peter 3:9
3. Don’t try to figure out why they hate you. It’s not them, it’s the Devil in them. Psalm 38:19
4. Forgive them. When you forgive you’re in control, it sets you free. Ephesians 4:32
5. Bless them – don’t curse them. Every person was put in your life for a reason. They will either bless you or test you. Stay in The Word. When tested you will be able to pass the test. Romans 12:14

Have you checked The Account today? The Account that should be checked/accessed daily. The Account that comes without fees attached. The Account that was paid for by the Blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Account that is available to you 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The Account that keeps on giving. The Account that you can share with everyone. The Account that will always have a Balance. The Bank of God’s Goodness.

The Bank of God’s Goodness is The Bank where our gifts, treasures, and talents from the Holy Spirit are stored. We must check The Account daily. The only way to access The Account is through prayer (confession and conversation with God) – praise (expressions of love for God) – and sharing (spreading His Word and sharing our gifts, treasures, and talents).

James 1:17 (NIV) “Every good and perfect gift is from above…”

These gifts from the Holy Spirit, although, given to the individual, are to strengthen the church. To encourage and empower the Body of Christ (the church) to do the work of Christ.

God has placed an unlimited supply of gifts, treasures, and talents in The Account for us to access. Such as: wisdom – knowledge – faith – healing – prophecy/speaking – discernment – tongues/languages – serving/helping – teaching – encouragement – giving – leading – forgiveness – understanding – singing – artistic ability – athletic ability – and the list goes on. Which of these is a gift you didn’t realize you had? What will you be sharing with others to honor God – to help build His Kingdom?  Don’t forget to check The Account!

Are you thirsty? A thirst can be quenched for a period-of-time but eventually your thirst will return. The Word of God will create a thirst in you that can never be quenched. The more you read and study The Word, the more you’ll realize that God’s Word is a Living Word that keeps on giving and will keep on flowing.

John 7:37 (NIV) “… Jesus stood and said in a loud voice. ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.'”

To believe in God is to have a thirst for God. We will always need more of His Living Water, of His Holy Spirit, that will flow from within us.

Often, when we experience happiness – love of family and friends – enjoy good health – good paying jobs – nice houses – cars – vacations – our focus will be on these things. All, of which, have the potential to take our attention away from God. Did you forget Who is in control? Did you forget where your Help comes from? Did you forget what He has done for you?

“Trouble will redirect your attention to God!” – Pastor V.S. Brice

When trials, tribulations, trouble comes we immediately call on God. We remember Who is in control – where our Help comes from – what He has done. We redirect our attention to God.

Psalm 5:2 (NIV) “Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.”

We know we serve a God who will “make a way out of no way” – “will never leave nor forsake you” – will instruct you to “look to the hills” – will be your “Bridge over troubled waters”.

Psalm 121:2 (NIV) “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Have an intimate relationship with God. A relationship requires action from all parties involved. Speak to Him daily and often – listen and obey. Your voice to God should be as familiar to Him as your loved one’s voice is familiar to you.

Psalm 34:1 (KJV) “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Redirect your attention to God and let Him direct your path through good and troubled times. Don’t keep God waiting – your action is required now! Get Connected – and – Stay Connected!

I visited our Youth Ministry Bible Study class last night and came away lifted in spirit. It’s a wonderful feeling to watch as our youth grow in the Lord.  Sis. Toya Brice started class with a prayer – then her conversation with the youth included the sharing of praise reports and the progress of their school week.  Following was a review on last week’s study: Salvation – Faith – Justification. Ephesians 2:8-9 and Romans 10:10

During the class Sis. Toya asked: “What do you value? Where is your treasure?”

Matthew 6:21 (NIV) “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

As you think about answering this question with Matthew 6:21 in mind, let me give you some scenarios. (No, these scenarios are not related to our youth. This question was put to adults.) Their responses fell into three groups.

Group One: In order of importance to them they started listing their possessions (including their jobs) – named their loved ones – then God.

Group Two: In order of importance to them they started naming their loved ones – God – and then their possessions (including their jobs).

Group Three: In order of importance to them they said, “God!” Then they named their loved ones.

Which group are you in? I could say more but I’ll leave this right here!
